Antique large frame single action revolver chambered in .44-40 Winchester, manufactured by Hopkins & Allen circa 1870's - 1880's. 'Skull Crusher' grip frame. Features a nickel plated finish, 3 1/8" barrel, forged round blade front sight, 'v' notched rear sight, fluted six-shot cylinder, smooth wide trigger, case hardened hammer with knurled spur, bird's head . Assembly number'140' match on the frame, barrel & cylinder with the serial number "6060" stamped on the exposed right portion of the butt. Markings: Hopkins & Allen two-line address on the left side of the barrel, "CALIBER/WINCHESTER 1873" on the left side of the frame & "MERWIN, HULBERT & CO. N.Y./POCKET ARMY" on the right side of the frame. Revolver exhibits approximately 75% of it's original nickel plated finish showing handling marks, losses (Mostly on the cylinder) and pin prick pitting. The hammer does not lock in the cocked position but the cylinder indexes properly when the revolver is pointed straight, and fires double action when pointed upwards, the bore is fair, strong rifling, with scattered light pitting, markings are overall very good with the barrel marking feint but readable. hard rubber grips have been replaced with wood grips that cover up the 'Skull Crusher' portion of the grip. There are high quality M&H 'birds head' grips available.
Condition is NRA Fair. Antique Firearm.
