Revolver. percussion. 6-rd Capacity. Rare, authorized almost exact copy of the Colt Model 1851 Navy. When fire destroyed much of the Colt factory in Feb. 1864, Metropolitan Arms Co. was created to fill the gap in production. Only about 6100 of these revolvers were produced by Metropolitan. In order to give the impression of grater production, starting about the number 50 the serial number was increased by 110. In order to determine the correct manufacturing sequence, 1100 must be subtracted from the serial number. Besides service in the Civil War, production continued until 1866, when Colt resumed production. These revolver saw service all over the American west, along with the Colt's through the 1870's .All Original, including the nipples. 7 1/2" octagonal barrel, stamped "Metropolitan Arms Co. new York".
