.50-70 caliber, 22& #34; barrel, NS. Marked on the left side of the frame U.S. Springfield 1871 in two lines. Ward Burton patent markings on the top of the bolt. Walnut stock with saddle ring bar. The barrel and receiver are sharp and crisp with some original finish. Carbine rear sight with rifle ladder, more than likely replaced in the field trial. Stock shows several nicks and dings throughout. The bore is very good still has a shine. This is one of the carbines that was issued for trial and used. Total produced 316.
