Cal. 41 Short RF. S# 3932. Bbl. 2 1/2" w/ tear drop shape at muzzle & brass blade sight; 3932 on bottom at rear. Mfg. 1865-1870 as continuation of Moore's Patent Firearms Co. No. 1 mfg. 1860-1865. Moore's created first big bore derringer that was continued by National who sold rights to Colt in 1870, Colt continued it (w/ improvements) as Second Model having hired prior National employees until discontinuing model in 1890. Mfg. simultaneously w/ No. 1; also purchased by Colt in 1870. Approx. 12,000 mfg. w/ plated iron (most common) or brass construction having steel bbls. & light scroll engraving plus checkered walnut grips (Colt changed grip shape) having 32 on back of each plus "AL" on left grip. Rear of bbl. & left side of frame under grip marked "AL"; National markings on flat topped rib; w/out "knife edge" extractor. Groove in top of hammer spur serving as rear sight if one were to actually aim. CONDITION: very good appearing example w/ light handling marks throughout & areas on frame having plating loss; most notable at trigger plus backstrap. Plating somewhat dull appearing would benefit from quality metal polish; gray silvery tarnished appearance on bbl. Slightly loose action & generally good bore w/ sharp rifling plus areas of pitting throughout. (01-22339/NW). ANTIQUE. 900-1,400.
