Cal. 45 Colt. S# 34019. Bbl. 7 1/2". 6 Shot fluted cyl. Blue finish w/ case colored frame. Bullseye ejector head. 1 Piece walnut grips, right panel has 5 hand cut notches. Butt has added swivel. Bbl., frame, cyl. & trigger guard have matching numbers. Backstrap has non matching number "179068". Left side of frame marked "U.S.". Frame has "L.D." (Lewis Draper) inspectors initials. Bbl. has "J.T.C." (John T Cleveland) & "P" inspection marks. Cyl. has "D.F.C." (David F Clark) & "P" inspection marks. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: Colt factory letter providing the following information: "Serial Number: 34019 / Caliber: .45/c / Barrel Length: Not Listed / Finish: Blue / Type of Stocks: Not Listed / Sold To: United States Government / Delivered To: U.S. Government Inspector / Address: located at the Colt plant / Date of Shipment: October 10, 1877. Number of Same Type Guns in Shipment: 200 / Remarks: As noted above, the records do not provide information with regard to the barrel length of subject revolver or the type of stocks. However, this is usually an indication of a 7 1/2" barrel length and walnut stocks as these were considered standard issue for that time period. / The records also indicate subject revolver was returned to the factory for refurbishing. The refurbishing consisted of replacement of worn parts, exterior refinishing and reassembly. The barrels of these revolvers were not shortened / The revolver was again delivered to the U.S. Government Inspector at the Colt plant on October 4, 1895.". Guns of History Inc. letter dated April 14, 2016 attributes gun to New York Militia. This letter describes adding a swivel as common practice & possible explanation for the mismatched backstrap. US marked leather flap holster & belt w/ brass buckle. Holster & belt have age darkened appearance showing wear & cracking. Pair of military issue leather gauntlets in fair condition. Consignor supplied hand written notes attributes the holster & gauntlets to "Lieut. Dale F McDonald / Twentieth Infantry / US Army." CONDITION: bbl. retains 70% lightly faded blue showing areas of aggressive cleaning. Ejector housing retains 40% blue in protected areas. Cyl. has dull fading blue in flutes w/ balance fading to gray. Grip straps retain sm. amount of blue in protected areas w/ spots of polishing marks on left side of trigger guard behind trigger. Frame retains light case colored fading to gray showing spots of corrosion. Grips have worn finish showing handling marks, dents & sm. chips. Bore retains lightly worn rifling. (01-18881/DS).
