Cal. 16 Ga. x 16 Ga. (2-1/2")/8x57JR (320 groove dia.). S# 24268. The 22-3/4" barrel set is fitted with full length matted rib holding pop-up rear and sourdough front sights. Rear portion of rib is fitted with slip-on dovetail for scope. Bottoms of barrels are stamped with May 1925 German proofs for 16 bore and 8x57 cartridges. French gray scallop back boxlock action features side safety, pin rifle cocking indicator, bushed strikers, crossbolt third fastener, side clips, raised rib tumbler end cocking indicators and double triggers (front set). Action is engraved with a background of small scroll surrounding well detailed game scenes on sides. A stag stands in a clearing while two hinds watch on left side of action. On right, an auerhann displays on a bare branch while two females are in attendance. Top lever is gold inlaid with a monogram "GF". Trigger guard is horn. Buttstock is a later replacement of crotch figured American walnut and measures 13-7/8" over ribbed horn buttplate. Pistol grip cap is also horn and point pattern checkering is at grip. Original forend has Deeley release. Drilling is fitted with a tooled leather strap in original loops. MEASUREMENTS: BBLS: Bore Diameter: L .672. R .672. Restriction: L .033 (full). R .034 (full). Wall thickness: L .025. R .028. STOCK: DAH: 2-1/16". DAC: 1-3/8". CAST: about 3/8" off. LOP: 13-7/8". WEIGHT: 7 lb. 0 oz. CONDITION: fair to good. Barrels retaining perhaps 20-30% original blue with some cleaned light pitting overall. Action also shows some light pitting and is mostly silver gray. Later buttstock retains about 90% of its original finish with a good number of marks. Forend refinished; checkering re-cut. Bores are shiny but shows some scattered pits and show considerable evidence of dent removal mostly in right barrel. Action is tight but the hook shows some peaning, otherwise mechanically good.
