Offered is an exceptional piece of military history, a British Crimea 4 bar medal awarded to Private Stephen Harrison, 13th Light Dragoons. who is a Light Brigade charger at the famous cavalry charge at Balaklava (alternately spelled "Balaclava"). The 13th Light Dragoons took over 50% casualties, 130 went into action, 61 returned with a loss of 69 men.. 1854-56 Crimean War medal, with 4 campaign clasps ‘SEBASTOPOL’, ‘INKERMANN’, ‘BALAKLAVA’ & ‘ALMA’. The medal is named in is officially impressed to Pvt. S. Harrison 13th Lt Drags. Private Harrison is a confirmed for the 13th light Dragoons at the time of the charge. Pvt. Harrison was born at Kent , near Sandwich and enlisted into the 7th Dragoons Guards at Maidstone on the 18th of February 1850. He transferred to the 13th Light dragoons on the first of July 1850 and served with the regiment in the Crimea at Alma, Balaclava, Inkermann and Sebastopol. He was discharged from Manchester, "time expired" on the 24th of February 1862 and subsequently received two Good Conduct Medals, The Turkish Crimean War Medal, "Fresh" Medal was granted on the 14th of August, 1856. Having served for 12 years and 6 days. The Charge of the Light Brigade was the 25th October 1854. The metal is in excellent condition, with a very nice patina, comes in it's original black leather case with red silk lining, with London maker's mark inside lid. Also comes with his Turkish Crimean 1855 War medal, has wear to the front, smoothing detail to the cannons, and flags. Comes with paperwork confirming the above listed information.
