Early WWII Nazi Municipal Police Officer's Dress Bayonet, with scabbard and frog, by E&F Horster, Solingen. These early bayonets were originally for use before the Nazi's took power. To make them conform to the new regulations, blades were shortened and the clamshell guard was removed, along with shortening the grip and adding the Nazi Police eagle. The 13'' long blade has a single large fuller on each side, marked at the ricasso area with stamped Horster monogram on one side, and stamped letters ''E & F Horster, Solingen'' on the other side. A faint police proof mark is stamped into the back spine near the guard. Blade is excellent with just some old dried grease on it. The eagle pommel and decorated guard have an oxidized patina over all. There are unit markings stamped into the crossguard of ''S.D.V.1.108.'', with matching numbers stamped into the upper scabbard fitting. Stag horn grips are in excellent condition retained with aluminum rivets and having the aluminum police eagle in the center of the front grip. There is a working push button at the top of the eagle pommel. Scabbard is black leather with nickel silver fittings at top and bottom; there is one small bulge in the leather stitching at the rear. The fittings have scratches, dings, and an oxidized patina overall. Black leather frog is the thin dress type with a large ''K98'' stamping at the rear. A nice untouched example. Est.: $500-$1,000.
