.44 cal, 31 3/4'' octagon barrel drilled for false muzzle with a bright excellent bore, appearing to have been very nicely relined. The barrel has mostly toned to a deep plum-brown patina showing some overall light pitting with German silver bands at muzzle and breech. The breech tang, lockplate and hammer are a lighter gray patina and show fine quality foliate scrollwork embellishments throughout, the plate marked ''ZETTLER / NEW YORK'' and the hammer with nice dolphin head. The fitting are of German silver consisting of nosecap, wedge escutcheons, fancy spur triggerguard and heavy schuetzen buttplate showing an old light cleaning and light foliate embellishments, the bottom spur of the triggerguard with a nice starburst. The decorative lock screw escutcheon has worn to ocher brass and is in a very attractive dolphin form. The checkered walnut stock remains in very good plus condition as lightly cleaned showing just some scattered light dings and handling marks. The checkering is mostly intact and the stock features a left-side medium cheekpiece. The rifle is sighted with a somewhat loose short tube tang sight, a rather simple v-notch rear leaf sight and a windage-adjustable target globe front with bead-on-post. The rifle includes a nicely-made false muzzle and brass-bodied starter and the set trigger will require mechanical attention as it does not set though the lock seems to function normally with just the firing trigger. A solid New York City schuetzen rifle. (13C11108-80) {ANTIQUE} (1200/1800)
