OHIO ORDNANCE BAR 1918A3 SELF LOADING RIFLE.

Cal. 30-06. S# R.O.618. Bbl. 27" over flash hider. The BAR was developed by John Browning in 1917 as an air cooled, gas operated, mag. fed, shoulder fired automatic rifle as a requirement for WWI. Early manufacturers included Colt, Winchester & Marlin Rockwell. Approx. 85,000 were mfg. Prior to the armistice. This particular example is by Ohio Ordnance Works (OOW) & is designated "The Self Loading Rifle Mod. 1918A3". It is a semi auto only, closed bolt self loading rifle variant of the historical BAR. This particular variant is quite different from the traditional OOW offerings, having some similarities w/ the the FN Model D. The finish is a very deep, dark blue instead of the more common parkerizing, on all exposed metal surfaces aside from trigger group, which is a bluish grey color. The wooden forend is the same style as the Swedish BAR, heavily checkered on both sides. Colt barrel w/ ordnance mark & 6/18 date. The trigger group also utilizes a pistol grip, like that offered on the FN-D as well as the shoulder stock which had a socket behind the rear sling swivel for a monopod. The hardwood furniture is definately an upgrade, w/ a high luster finish, especially on the butt stock. Gas operated w/ an adj. gas system. Has a threaded muzzle w/ BAR 1918A2 cone flash hider. Fixed blade protected front sight. Ladder elevated peep rear sight graduated to 1600 yards w/ folding battle peep sight. 31" Sight radius. Brown leather sling. Left side safety selector & non reciprocating charging handle. MAGS: 2 steel 20 rd. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: FM23-15SA Owners manual from OOW. CONDITION: all outward aspects indicate this firearm has been utilized very little if any at all. The bluing coverage is complete & consistent w/ only a few light spots of gentle thinning in areas of mechanical intervention which happens almost immediately . Wood forend is has deep checkering w/ a few light drag lines indicative of vertical storage . Buttstock carries only a few light impressions, primarily at the bottom, and a small rub mark from engaging the charging handle. Bore illustrates some light pitting but retains strong rifling. Fire control mechanism appears to function correctly when cycled by hand. (22-3931/JZ). MODERN. $3,000-5,000.
