DELUXE TAKEDOWN MARLIN 1895 RIFLES IN EXISTENCE EX. WES ADAMS COLLECTION. Cal. 45-90. S# 338228.This outstanding rifle was manufactured in 1906 and is fitted with an octagonal 26” barrel, German silver Rocky Mountain front sight, semi buckhorn rear sight, and full magazine. The case colored takedown action is factory engraved in the #5-3 pattern with a special oval vignette on the left side depicting a finely detailed woodland scene that includes a bull moose feeding on a downed sapling with a cow moose laying in the grass behind the bull. The smaller vignette located on the right side of the receiver also features a superbly detailed forest scene that includes a whitetail buck in flight. The vignettes on both sides of the frame are accented with a balance of detailed oak leaves & acorns with a punch dot background with a matching bolt motif. The lever boss carries a matching engraving of oak leaves. The top receiver flat is accented with a stylized J shape pattern engraving with chip and dot borders. The hammer, sides of the lever, foreend cap, & takedown ring are tastefully decorated with a matching engraving pattern. The rifle is stocked with a beautifully figured flame grain American walnut with special custom 24 line per inch checkering that covers the majority of the forearm terminating with an acorn finial and accented with carved shield panels on either side where the forearm meets the frame. The shields are checked with a finer 32 line per inch pattern. There is a vacant unchecked oval panel on the bottom of the forearm that measures 3/4 “ x 1/2 “. The serpentine pistol grip butt stock is also embellished with matching 32 line per inch checkered shield panels where the frame and butt stock meet. The majority of the pistol grip is checkered with a 24 line per inch pattern chasing the contour with a matching vacant unchecked oval panel on either side. The upper portion of the pistol grip is topped with a 32 line per inch sweeping panel of checkering creating a truly unique and attractive look that compliments the exquisite rifle beautifully. The stock terminates with a smooth steel semi crescent buttplate with has internally marked matching serial number that correlates with the correct serial numbers located on the left side of the top tang and in the top channel of the buttstock. The buttplate is lightly embellished with a scroll and diamond checkered panel at the center. A truly stunning special order Marlin rifle. CONDITION: This exquisite rifle remains in an extra fine condition with the barrel and magazine tube retaining 98%+ of its original bluing with some very mild nicks on the bbl and a slightly duller appearance to the magazine tube that also has a couple of minor blemishes on the left side. The case colored receiver, bolt, lever, hammer and takedown ring retain a wonderful amount of their vivid colors with some light fading on the carry points and outer face of the lever. The stock set still maintains the vast majority of its original varnish with some wear to the fine checkering & minor handling marks. The original blued finish on the buttplate has faded over the years yet still retains the much of its finish with light wear at the heel & toe. Sound mechanics. Bright shiny bore with nice rifling. PROVENANCE: Ex- Wes Adams Collection. The William Blount Collection of Extraordinary Marlins. (24-1645/ZAL) CURIO. $60,000- 80,000.
