DRILLING. Cal. 16ga/9.3x72R. S#. 241. Bbl. 27 1/2" of Krupp fluid steel. Top of the rib is marked "Val. Kern, Nurnberg". Unusual round body underlever action. Scalloped receiver has a 2 5/8" top flat that protrudes over the triggers, housing the strikers & three bar-type cocking indicators. Top tang has bbl. selector lever. Breech of shotgun bbls. has an unusual sliding bar safety. Double triggers; the front trigger is set. Extractors. Bead front sight w/ folding U-notch sight that raises when the rifle bbl. is selected. Action has full coverage deep relief game scene engraving featuring pointing dogs on the left side, bugling stag and heine on the right side, w/ buck & doe deer on top. Scenes have stippled backgrounds & are surrounded by ornate foliate engraving that extends to the underlever & forearm iron. Breech end of the bbl. is highlighted w/ a wide border engraving. Toeline of the stock is fitted w/ a steel cartridge trap that has complementing engraving featuring Capercaillies. Schnable-tipped splinter forearm & pistol grip walnut stock w/ European cheekpiece. Features include point pattern hand checkering, a fluted horn grip cap, & sling swivel in the toeline. Front swivel is bbl. mounted. LOP: 13 5/8" over a replacement checkered steel buttplate. WEIGHT: 7 lbs, 3 oz. CONDITION: bbl. retains 70% blue, fading to brown, and showing spots of small corrosion. Action has a faded gray appearance. Stock & forearm have worn finish & checkering w/ numerous marks & dents. Rifle bore has worn rifling. Shotgun bores are bright. (23-5770/DS). CURIO. $1,500-2,500.
