Entitled "Roping a Rider" signed lower right and written across bottom of drawing; "I shakes out my loop spreads it right around that hombre's middle, and turns away." Image measures 9 3/4"x14" in single mat with molded gold painted wood frame. Brass plaque on frame reads '1892 Will James 1942 "Roping A Rider", Scribner's The Drifting Cowboy 1925'. Appeared in Chapter II "Filling in the Cracks" page 47. Paid $17.500 from Fred R. Kline Gallery & Kline Art Assoc. in 2002. Will James, cowboy, cattle rustler, and beloved author and artist of the American West was born in Quebec, Canada. He came West at the age of fifteen and became a cowhand showing artistic talent from an early age, gaining a reputation for his sketches of life on the range. Between 1920 and his death in 1942 Will James wrote and illustrated more than twenty books and numerous magazine articles. The Will James Society promotes his legacy, literature, and art, and donates his books to schools and libraries throughout the United States and Canada. They also send softcover versions to military installations in the US and overseas. The society is currently located in Elko, Nevada which is also the home of the Northeastern Nevada Museum, the home of Don Frazier's collection of art works and books by Will James .From the Bill A.
