Original sepia tone photograph mounted on card from the Department of the Interior showing Indian warrior holding his pipe and wearing beaded moccasins and bone breastplate. The image measures 9 1/2” x 7 1/4”. The card reads, “Department of the Interior” and “U.S., geological and geographical survey of the territories, 2nd division, J.W. Powell geologist in charge”. Photograph shows some staining and creasing with normal aging. Powell was appointed to study the tribes and territories of New Mexico and Arizona. Est.: $300-$600.
