32" spearpoint blade, .75" wide at ricasso. Blade etched throughout with floral adornments and trophies of arms. Skillfully formed and sculpted brass hilt with clamshell counter-guard dramatically displaying a Mexican Republic eagle. Baroque-style motifs throughout including floral adornments to quillon and guard, and cherubs on the pommel. Grip of pearl wrapped in wire. Brass scabbard with chased motifs en suite. **Very good condition. Blade has a light pewter patination with some minor areas of oxidation. Hilt shows some minor spots of verdigris with good detail remaining. Grip shows some minor loosening of wire and a nearly invisible spot of missing pearl near pommel. Scabbard has moderate wear and dents from age with a split area near tip. Sword knot may be a later association** Provenance Colonel John Hays Collection Harry B.
