OFFICER PISTOLS BY COLNOT. Cal. 48. NSN. Bbl. 9 1/4" swamped oct., have flares to muzzles & do not have patent breeches. Touch holes are gold lined. Bbls. decorated w/ gold inlaid thin scroll w/ floral highlights at breeches & muzzles. Top flats are inlaid “COLNOT” in script. Locks w/ flat plates feature serpentine cocks, waterproof gold lined pans, bridled frizzens & roller feather springs w/ out finials. Locks & hammers are feather bordered engraved & have sprays of armorial engravings on tails & some scrolls on cocks. Areas under pans are inlaid “IN WIEN”. Triggers are set. Plain walnut stocks extend to muzzles are pinned to bbls. & have fish scale carved flared grips. Iron furniture is relief engraved w/ acanthus, scroll & baskets of flowers as finials to trigger guards & thimbles. Ebony ramrods w/ horn tips mount through beaded single pipes & matching thimbles. Phillip Colnot worked in Wein (Vienna) from 1800-1816 during the wars with Napoleon. CONDITION: bbls. retain about 30% bright blue w/ some scattered freckling & show evidence of cleaning. Locks are cleaned to gray brown. Stocks retain most of their original finish w/ a number of light marks. One pistol has repaired crack through grip. Furniture w/ perhaps half its blue is turning brown at grips. Rifled bores are very good to fine. (01-19866/MGM). ANTIQUE. $4,000-6,000.
