PERCUSSION KENTUCKY RIFLE ATTRIBUTED TO JOHN WATT,

JUNIATA COUNTY. Cal. 45 rifled. Bbl. 41" full oct. marked "J. W." Rifle has a back action Tryon, Philadelphia percussion lock & dbl. set triggers. The 4 piece brass patchbox is nicely engraved & the rifle has a 6 3/4" brass saddle plate & 7" brass comb inlay. Rifle has 26 silver inlays in the stock including a 1/2" dia. star inlay on the left hand side of the wrist. The rifle is attributed to John Watt, a member of the Watt gunsmithing family in Licking Creek, Jutiana County, Pennsylvania. Watt was active from 1815-1885. CONDITION: there's a 3" wood replacement between the hammer & the bbl. tang. The sm. triangle of wood at bottom of the buttplate is missing where it had broken off due to shrinkage.
