40 bore, 8.25" octagonal swamped barrels, NSN. Damascus barrels with full stocks secured by German silver pins and escutcheons. Sculpted German silver ramrod pipes. Dovetailed German silver front sights with adjustable rear sights. Flat lockplates with flat hammers. Lockplates marked "F. Ulrich" with top of barrel engraved "Ulrich in Orberndorf." Engraved screw heads with breeches adorned with a Greek key motif. Horn ramrods with gilt brass tips, one being a replacement. Franz Ulrich had a tumultuous career in gunmaking, being made the Director of the arms factory in Oberndrof in 1812, being terminated from that position in 1820. In 1823 he was named the Supervisor of Ludwigsburg, only to be released permanently from government service a year later. Shortly after, he opened his own shop in Stuttgart. He filed for and received two patents, one for a fuse and one for a concealed-lock percussion action. **Good condition overall. Barrels have an overall pewter patination with scattered moderate pitting and original twist steel pattern being somewhat difficult to discern. Stocks show some handling marks and blemishes as well as retaining the original varnish. Actions are functional with bores showing some old grime and dusty oxidation.** $2,000-$4,000
