Pattern 1871 British Dragoons Helmet
Vintage troopers pattern 1871 metal dress helmet for the 6th Dragoon Guards. The helmet has the original brass starburst helmet plate to the center with separate brass 6 numeral to the center. silver tone ring around the six has the regimental motto "Honi. Soit, Qui, Mal. Y. Pense." Anglo-Norman language, a dialect of Old Norman French spoken by the medieval ruling class in England, meaning "shamed be whoever thinks ill of it", usually translated as "shame on anyone who thinks evil of it". It is the motto of the British chivalric Order of the Garter, the highest of all British knight hoods, except in Scotland. Horse hair plume. Metal Tudor rose side boss fittings which supports the leather lined brass scaled chinstrap. Small Tudor rose on top of plume. The white horse hair plume remains in clean condition with the original brass top fitting. Original brown leather liner is very good. Overall this is a excellent example of a metal dragoon troopers helmet. Comes on an ornate wooden stand. From the Joe Musso Collection.
