Pre-War Commercial Mauser Bolt Action Rifle, NVSN, .30-06 cal., blue finish, 22'' half-round half-octagon barrel with full-length matted rib, checkered and carved walnut Monte Carlo cheekpiece stock with horn forend tip and pistol grip cap, and Pachmayr recoil pad, dovetailed ''V'' rear sight with fold-up second blade and round silver bead front sight, with sling swivels. Topped with a Hensoldt-Wetzlar Zieljagd 4X scope on removable claw mounts. Marked on rib of barrel ''Jos. Singer, Los Angeles, Cal'', and on barrel side ''Made in Germany''. Joseph M. Singer (1862-1927) was a gunsmith and importer, best known for his triggers on Schuetzen rifles. He was responsible for bringing August Pachmayr to the U.S. and worked with Harry Pope. Side of reciever ring has Imperial German proofmarks of ''St. mG'', ''(crown)/N'', and ''10gr''. Action has light border engraving around the edges, with a matted dot engraved finish on top of chamber area. Triggerguard, magazine floorplate, and housing have border engraving with floral and scroll engraving in the center. Bolt has turned-down handle for scope clearance with partial checkering to the knob. Trigger appears to be a more modern type with light blue anodized aluminum components, and a dark blued finish trigger. Scope has a blued finish and a single post reticle, adjustment on top for elevation, adjustment in the rear mount for windage. Stock shows a beautiful burled and striped walnut grain, high relief carving of leaf style flourishes, wraparound checkering in the forend and sides of pistol grip. There are thin white spacers at the horn forend tip, horn pistol grip cap, and butt area. There is a black spacer next to the brown rubber Pachmayr recoil pad. LOP is 13-1/4'' with 12-1/4'' original wood. Condition is very good with approx. 85% of a bright reblued finish on the action and barrel, scattered tiny pinprick pitting over most of the barrel and parts of the action, with heavier pinprick pitting to the bolt release spring. Triggerguard has light edgewear, floorplate has a thinning blue to gray finish overall. Bolt shows wear to the bright polished blue finish where it contacts the receiver from normal use. There is some light rust on the extractor retaining ring on the bolt. Wood stock is in very good condition showing only minor scratches and slight dings from use, the checkering nice and sharp, with a nice hand-rubbed oil finish. Action functions well, bore is bright with strong lands, and a light to moderate frosting in the grooves, optics are clear and bright. Scope has 98% of its original blued finish, with a couple of light scuffs to the black painted front lens retainer. Est.: $1,800-$2,400. (C&R)
