FLINTLOCK POCKET PISTOL BY HAWKINS OF LONDON. Cal. 50. NSN. 2 1/8" smooth bore bbl. with fine cannon turnings has wrench lug at bottom. Tapered breech with internal workings for serpentine cock on left side also features bridled friction frizzen and file decorated feather spring that runs under pan to a V, and attaches just in front of cock w/ foliate finial. Action is engraved with some simple scroll and geometric borders. Maker's name "HAWKINS" is under feather spring, "LONDON" is on top (most likely John Hawkins working in London 1680-1727). Grip stock of dense European walnut has bulbous bag grip w/ raised carved fields around rear of lock portion of action and matching panel on left side. There is raised carved acanthus at rear of top tang. CONDITION: good to very good. Metal showing considerable old cleaning over some scattered pitting mostly silver to gray. Wood retains a large amount of old oil finish possibly original with some dents and marks. Carving remains clear. There is an old crack at left side around butt. Bore is good. Mechanically good.
