28" BARRELS, EJECTORS, SINGLE TRIGGER, BEAVERTAIL FOREND AND SINGLE SIGHTING PLANE. Cal. 410 Ga., 3". S# FWS55942. Bbls. 28" with slightly raised matted rib are marked "L. C. SMITH - 410 GA - Ideal - FULTON, N.Y. U.S.A." "HUNTER ARMS CO. M'F'R'S" on tops. Bbl. flats are stamped with serial number, grade, chamber and hunter proofs. Bottoms of bbls. are stamped "LONDON STEEL". Case hardened small size sidelock action features non-automatic safety and selective "Hunter One Trigger". Action is engraved in normal "Ideal" grade style with sprays of acanthus. Lockplates have near full coverage of large stylized acanthus. "L. C. SMITH" is on the front of each lockplate. Trigger guard with leaves on bow has serial number on tang. Capped pistol grip buttstock of nicely stump figured American walnut measures 13 5/8" over brown leather covered pad. Point pattern checkering is at grip. Matching braced beavertail ejector forend has usual J-spring and secondary knurled button release in oval steel escutcheon. MEASUREMENTS: BBLS: Bore Diameter at muzzles: R .408? (IC). L .408? (IC). STOCK: DAH: 2 5/16". DAC: 1 9/16-". LOP: 13 5/8". CAST: neutral. WEIGHT: 6 lb. 13 oz. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: Cody firearms research letter and Marlin Firearms Co. factory letter. CONDITION: fine as partially refinished. Bbls. retaining nearly all of what appears to be their original blue. Action and lockplates retain nearly all of what appears to be very well done, possibly factory recolor hardening. Engraving is somewhat softened. Secondary blued parts present the same appearance. Stocks retain most of what appears to be their original varnish finish with some light added oil and a good scattering of handling marks. Checkering is lightly worn. Bores are bright and shiny. Mechanically fine. Factory letter states this gun was finished April 25, 1950. A very rare gun. Houchins estimates that a total of 220 "Ideal" grade were made in 410 Ga. A Cody Museum research project reveals that 126 were made after 1946 with "S" prefix numbers and that only 3 have the combination of features found in this gun. (22-3902/MGM). CURIO. $12,000-20,000.
