RARE AND EXTREMELY FINE CASED FACTORY ENGRAVED
& IVORY COLT MODEL 2 ROOT 1855 SIDE HAMMER PERCUSSION REVOLVER. Cal. 28. S# 19475. Bbl. 3 1/2". Ivory 28 cal. blue finish with 3 1/2" octagonal barrel brass pin front sight & 2 line Hartford address w/ pointing hand motif shot cyl. w/ rolled “Indians attacking cabin” scene. Mounted with beautiful 1 piece smooth "certifiable antique elephant ivory" grip w/ checkered butt. Revolver is finely factory engraved in style of Gustav Young with about 60% coverage of precise foliate scroll arabesques patterns that have pearled backgrounds. Loading lever flat and hammer are engraved en suite. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: Mahogany Colt case; compartmentalized w/ dark blue velvet lining. Casing retains along w/ revolver, double-sided Eagle & Stars flask, correct swell grip brass two cavity "COLT'S PATENT" bullet & ball mold w/ sprue cutter, an L-shaped gun tool & a wood handled screw driver. Also included is a Certification of "antique ivory" report. This is an exceptional cased factory engraved & ivory Colt Model 1855 Revolver made just before the Civil War in 1859. CONDITION: excellent, all matching, retaining most of its original bright blue finish though flaked over about half of barrel which has turned plum/brown patina. Barrel address is weakly struck on bottom line as seen in photos. Cylinder retains bright original blue rear of rolled Indian/cabin scene & “COLT’S PATENT” which is crisp & discernable above S# w/ silver/gray patina. Ivory grips are well fit with light age patina, mechanics are crisp, with crisp, rifled bore. Case is also fine with about 6" crack on lid, interior velvet has typical wear to areas rubbed by revolver including 1/2" hole in velvet, one compartment has old glue repair; accessories are excellent, flask retains virtually all original varnish, L-shaped tool retains virtually all of its blue, “COLT’S PATENT” mold is fine, sprue cutter is polished bright.
