REVOLVER. Cal. 41. S# 149. Bbl. 7" oct. This unique Civil War revolver of which 640 are thought made (1861-1862) utilized a disk priming mechanism. Pellet primers are loaded in spring loaded reservoir at bottom of frame w/ knurled knob closure. When revolver is cocked, patented arm protrudes, picks up pellet & places it above nipple for firing. Standard configuration, 7" oct. bbl., brass frame w/ top strap marked "BUTTERFIELDS / PATENT DEC. 11 1855 / PHILADA." CONDITION: very good to fine overall, appears complete & original. Matching S#s are found externally on bbl., cyl., loading arm, grip strap & each grip half. Bbl. retains traces of original blue finish w/ balance plum. Cyl. retains about 1/2 of it's blue finish. Grips retain about 1/2 of a varnish finish w/ crack through inner toe. Mechanically functional w/ crisp, bright bore. PROVENANCE: From the Collection of James B. Taylor. (01-20509/JS).
