LINE REVOLVER. Cal. 32. S# E9804. Bbl. 2.5". Colt's New Line revolvers started production alongside single action army’s in the early 1870s. Not a lot of these early guns are decorated and most saw hard use. This example is one of the exceptions. Made in 1875 and reminiscent of examples known made for the 1876 Philadelphia Centennial Exposition, finely engraved, plated, and cased. Factory engraved with about 75% coverage with arabesque scrolls and punch dot background, fine smooth polished ivory grips, case hardened hammer, and blued cylinder pin screws & cylinder release button. Standard configuration with 2.5” barrel. 2-Line Hartford address. Small half-round front sight stamped “32 CAL” on butt. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: casing is blue velvet and blue silk lined and has woodblock cut for 30 cartridges, 28 of which are present. Case is brown leather veneer. CONDITION: extremely fine, complete and matching, frame serial numbered E9804, barrel 9804, cylinder has last 3 digits and assembly letter J804. Plating is 95% plus intact with losses at a few high areas. Markings and engraving crisp. Certifiable antique original ivory grips are very well fit with good patina. Mechanically fine with crisp rifled bore. Casing is fine overall, some soiling and where high areas of velvet, silk ribbons have fraying at ends, lock is missing tongue, leather veneer complete with scuffing and wear at corners.
