RARE IDENTIFIED CIVIL WAR SHARPS CARBINE INSCRIBED

Cal. .52. S# C,9273. Standard New Model 1863 Sharps carbine. 22” bbl w/ 3 line Sharps address. Frame w/ correct stamped patent markings & nicely scratched on left side of frame “Richard Brown / co. a 17 / Ill Cav”. Richard Brown & this carbine listed by serial number are found in undated “Descriptive Company Roll” from National Archives (copy included). December 26, 1864 Richard was reported to have deserted at Weston, Missouri taking his carbine & accoutrements w/ him, owing the government $41.14. (copies of service records also accompany). UNATTACHED ACCESORIES: copy of “Descriptive Company Roll” from National Archives. CONDITION: good-very good overall. Name scratched into frame is all discernible. Front sight blade is replaced w/ cut copper nickel Indian head penny. Bbl. band is original Sharps but replacement. Metal cleaned & toned to smooth gray/brown patina w/ pitting. Stock refinished w/ discernible saddle wear & inspector cartouches, small inset repair left of tang & crack repair at wrist. Mechanics fine, good rifled bore. (01-20154/JS). ANTIQUE. $3,000-5,000.
