RARE JOHN STEWART BALTIMORE RETAILED WAR OF 1812

ERA FLINTLOCK PISTOL. Cal. .40. NSN. 10" Overall, 5.75" oct. bbl. w/ gold band & “BALTIMORE” inset in gold oval. Inset silver front sight, gold touch hole, fine lock engraved “STEWART” for John M. Stewart who was listed as a gunsmith in Baltimore city directories from 1810-1815 at 6 Light Street. Lock is nicely beveled w/ bridled roller frizzen, locking safety & unsupported serpentine cock. Trigger bow is engraved w/ patriotic crossed flags & drum, pewter nosecap, ebony tipped ramrod w/ attachable fitted worm. Small oval silver thumbplate has scripted monogram of owner. There are no internal proofs on lock or bbl Bbl. internally marked “No. 3”. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: letter dated 1965 offering this pistol & telling its history & “authenticated as American”. CONDITION: good overall. Metal overall gray, bbl scattered pitting, triggerguard missing front screw, ramrod thimbles loose, right key way escutcheon loose. Stock is sound w/ worn diamond point checkering, crack repair on left side, retaining strong traces of original varnish. Mechanically sluggish, will not hold full cock, safety is functional, good discernible rifled bore. (01-19983/JS). ANTIQUE. $3,000-4,000.
