RARE LC SMITH NO 4E 2 BBL SET SXS SHOTGUN.
Cal.12 ga. 2 3/4" S#. 207255. Two-barrel set; both barrels are 30" of nitro steel. This is the only Grade 4 shipment shipped with two sets of 30" barrels listed in the ledgers. Case-colored sidelock action with selective ejectors and double triggers. The No. 4 engraving features oval scenes with pointing dogs. The scenes are surrounded by a fine arabesque scroll that continues to the upper and lower receiver areas, as well as the trigger guard. The trigger guard bow is engraved with the customer name "J. H. Shirk". The breech ends of both bbls. have border line engraving. Rib extensions are marked "Hunter Arms Co., Fulton, NY". Each set of bbls. has its own individual splinter forend of ebony-tipped thin shell walnut. Hard rubber-capped pistol grip custom replacement stock of fancy walnut is checkered at the wrist. LOP: 13 1/2" over a proper-style buttplate. DAC: 1 7/8". DAH: 2 5/8". Near-neutral cast. BBL1: Bore diameter: RT .725, LT 727. Choke constriction: RT .034, LT .034. Minimum bore diameter: RT .025, LT .030. BBL 2: Bore diameter: RT .729, LT .729. Choke constriction: RT .004, LT .020. Minimum bore dia: RT .026, LT .028. Weight: 7 lbs, 12.6 oz. UNATTACHED ACCESORIES: L.C. Smith Collectors Association letter providing general information and listing specifications for this gun as recorded on page 23 of Ledger 17. Completion date: January 26, 1907. Further stating, "Serial Number 207255 was the only No. 4 shipped with two sets of 30" barrels." Total production of No. 4 shotguns from 1894–1915 was 495. No. 4 production in all gauges totaled 29 in 1907. Gun is housed in a leather-covered case with a green velour two-bbl. fitted interior. The exterior of the case lid is marked with the initials "H. S. M." The lid interior has an added L. C. Smith paper label. Case key is included. Case shows normal age-related wear. CONDITION: action retains 30% of its light case colors, fading to a silvery gray. Both bbls. have over 95% blue. Both forearms are refinished with freshened checkering. Stock shows light wear and handling marks, with hairline cracks behind both locks. Both bores are very good and bright. (23-1616/DS). CURIO. $5,000-7,500.
