RARE M1805 HARPERS FERRY FLINTLOCK PISTOL DATED

1806 AND NUMBERED 53. Cal. 54. S# 53. Bbl. measures 10 1/16”. Of a total number of 4,096 pistols produced, a scant 300 M1805 pistols were manufactured at Harper's Ferry dated 1806. Of these 300 pistols, only 52 examples dated 1806 are known to have survived to present day in various collections. This very early example is serial number "53". Bbl. is proofed on the left side with eagle head over “P” & “US” in an oval. The serial number “53" is stamped in front of the US proof. Pistol is original flint with original lock intact. Lock features a spread winged American eagle over “US” in front of the cock and “HARPERS FERRY 1806” to the rear of the cock. Brass trigger guard, buttcap, side plate, nose band & entry thimble. There is an iron ramrod thimble housing a brass tipped. wooden ramrod below the iron rib under the bbl. A cartouche can still be seen on the stock just to the rear of the side plate. CONDITION: iron has a light gray, lightly cleaned patina with a few very widely scattered dark spots particularly around the pan. Brass has, of course, been cleaned at some time but has reacquired a very pleasing, light mustard patina. Lock holds both full and half cock and the action is very crisp. Wood is solid with a few minor dents and dings as would be expected in a military pistol that is over 200 years old. Bore is very fine showing only minor oxidation. PROVENANCE: from the Collection of Rick Hudak, author of, "Harpers Ferry Arsenal and Joseph Perkin". Ex. Joe Murphy Collection, Ex. Dave Prawdzik Collection. (01-20974/BF). ANTIQUE. $12,000-15,000.
