RARE M1805 HARPERS FERRY FLINTLOCK PISTOL DATED

1808 AND NUMBERED 1770. Cal. 54. S# 1770. Bbl. measures 10 1/16”. Of a total number of 4,096 pistols produced, 1,280 M1805 pistols were manufactured at Harper's Ferry dated 1808. Of these 1,280 pistols, only 103 examples dated 1808 are known to have survived to present day in various collections. This example is serial number "1770". Bbl. is proofed on the left side with eagle head over “P” & “US” in an oval. The serial number “1770" is stamped in front of the US proof. Pistol is original flint with original lock intact. Lock features a spread winged American eagle over “US” in front of the cock and “HARPERS FERRY 1808” to the rear of the cock. Brass trigger guard, buttcap, side plate, nose band & entry thimble. There is an iron ramrod thimble housing a brass tipped, wooden ramrod below the iron rib under the bbl. A very light cartouche can still barely be seen on the stock just to the rear of the side plate. CONDITION: iron has a medium gray patina that may have been lightly cleaned years ago but has reacquired a rich, overall luster. Brass has likely also been cleaned but is beginning to show a rich patina once again. Lock holds both full and half cock and the action is crisp. Wood is solid with a very few minor dents and dings as would be expected in a military pistol that is over 200 years old. Bore is fine with very limited oxidation. PROVENANCE: from the Collection of Rick Hudak, author of, "Harpers Ferry Arsenal and Joseph Perkin". (01-20972/BF). ANTIQUE. $10,000-13,000.
