Cal. 222. S# SP359094. Bbl. 20". Mfg. 1994. A quite rare and desirable blue label Model R6510 AR-15 A2 that was one of the last manufactured before the implementation of the domestic "Assault Weapon" legislation. Chambered in .222 Remington, rather than the common .223 Remington, made for exporting to nations that did not allow the civilian ownership of military calibers. This particular example was manufactured by only a few before the cutoff from the 1994 Assault Weapon Ban. The latest pre-ban gun is numbered SP360200, with this gun being made just over 100 guns prior, and stamped SP359094. There are no export or import markings present, indicating that it was a very rare example, never being exported, but sold within the United States. Aside from the special chambering, it is almost identical in aesthetics to the traditional .223 rifles we typically encounter. A 20" Hbar threaded and terminated with an A2 flash hider. No bayonet lug. Protected post front sight. Full-length A2 round handguards. Tapered Delta ring. Fully slotted bolt carrier, though there is no pin in lower receiver necessitating the slot. Carry handle upper receiver with brass deflector, forward assist, and windage & elevation adjustable sights. Slab-side lower receiver with threaded, front takedown pin. Full-length rifle stock with trap door. Barrel is marked "C MP .222 REM. 1/12". Lower receiver is marked "AR-15 A2 / CAL. 222 / SPORTER II / COLT'S FIREARMS DIVISION / COLT INDUSTRIES / HARTFORD, CONN. / U.S.A.". MAGS: two original 5 rd. with ".222 REM"-marked floorplates. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: factory box, plastic sleeve, and accessory pack with owners' manual, cleaning brushes, sling, and magazines. CONDITION: all aspects indicate as new; in the box. Rifle was received still wrapped in the plastic sleeve in its original blue label box, with magazines still in accessory pack. No sign of use. Bright bore with strong rifling. Fire control mechanism appears to function correctly when cycled by hand. PROVENANCE: from the lifelong collection of Terrence McCarty. (24-83/JZ). MODERN. $1,000-1,500.
