RARE US MODEL 1941 JOHNSON DUTCH

CONTRACT SEMI-AUTO MILITARY RIFLE WITH NON-LETTER SERIAL NUMBER PREFIX. Cal. 30-06. S#4849. Bbl.22". This scarce rifle was manufactured in the first block of serial numbers and so does not have a letter prefix. Later rifles used an A or a B prefix after number 9,999 was reached. Consignor states rifle manufactured January 26 1942. This would be in the first block of the Dutch contract. According to Johnson Rifles and Machine Guns by Canfield,a little over 2,600of these rifles made it to the Netherlands East Indies and all shipments ceased after Dec. 7 1941. Johnson rifles will not have matching numbers except by coincidence as they were not matched during manufacture.
Fully adjustable aperture rear sight graduated to 1000 meters. Blade front sight w/ protective ears. Receiver markings on top are CAL. 30-06 SEMI-AUTO "JOHNSON AUTOMATICS" MODEL OF 1941 MADE IN PROVIDENCE, R.I. U.S.A. & patent information. Marked at right rear with CRANSTON ARMS CO in inverted triangle (Dutch National Symbol). Five pointed star acceptance mark. Barrel extension and slide marked JS. Barrel marked around chamber S#, encircled dagger with IO proof, and J.A. 30-06. Bayonet lug is present. Front cross pin is not present in receiver. Solid walnut stock set with out laminations. CONDITION; stock set has nice appearance with little wear and tiny scattered handling marks. Buttplate is not a tight fit to the inletting. Forend has two missing chips, approximately two inches long on top of forward end. Metal has nearly 70% original parkerized finish with thinning and wear, except barrel which has nearly all its original parkerized finish. Near excellent shiny bore. (22-5487/RW). CURIO. $6,000-9,000.
