RARE Wells Fargo & Co Stamped Stagecoach WM Moore SxS 10 GA Hammer Shotgun in Display Case
Manufactured by WM Moore & Co in Belgium circa 1880's. This stagecoach gun features 20" barrels with brass bead front sight and chambered for 3" 10 gauge shells. Top of the barrel is stamped "WM MOORE & CO LAMINATED STEEL". Bottom of the barrel is stamped "11" possibly as the serial number and several British proof marks. Near the lug is stamped "W F & CO". Dual "rabbit ear" hammer gun with side lever break action and double triggers. Receiver is embellished with scroll engraving on both panels, bottom, tangs and trigger guard. Water table is stamped with proof marks and a "3" possibly indicating model or chamber. Hardwood pistol grip stock fitted with metal engraved cap, steel butt plate and inlaid with a silver vanity plate on the bottom. Matching forearm with ebony or bone forearm tip. Right side of the stock is engraved "WELLS FARGO & CO / EXPRESS / SAN FRANCISCO CAL". This shotgun has not been authenticated as Wells Fargo paperwork was destroyed decades ago. Most Wells Fargo stagecoach employees purchased their own weapons for use and this likely could be the case here. Comes in a nice felt lined oak with glass top display case. Includes period correct Wells Fargo letters and envelope, empty cardboard and brass shotshells, Winchester gun grease, Mill-Rose gun cleaning rods in original bag, UMC primers in original box, Alcan and Winchester loads in boxes and several real antique coins for display. Case measures 53.5" x 11.5" x 4" tall. LOP: 13-1/2". CALIBER: 10 GA. S/N: 11. FFL STATUS: Antique.
CONDITION
Finish has turned to a brown patina. Does show some dings and scratches from field use. Stock and forearm show dings and scratches from field use and racks. Actions work great, bores are dark and not intended for modern day shells. Case is in good condition with minor scuffs and scratches from handling. Displays really nicely!
