Cal. 10 Ga., 2 7/8". S# 18725. Bbls. 28" of fine Damascus steel, marked "2" on the bottom. Brass bead. Exposed hammer top lever action w/ case colored finish. Grade 6 factory engraving consists of highlights of foliate scroll w/ fancy borders on frame, lock plates, top lever & trigger guard. Trigger guard bow features a setter holding a game bird. Ebony tipped splinter forearm & rnd. knob stock of fancy English walnut having burl figure & dark streaks. Forearm & wrist of stock have point pattern hand checkering. LOP: 14" over original buttplate. DAC: 2 3/8". DAH: 3 1/4". Stock has neutral cast. Choke constrictions: R - .010, L - .010. WEIGHT: 8 lbs., 12 oz. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: Letter dated Sept. 13, 1997 from Charles Semmer, author of the book "REMINGTON DOUBLE SHOTGUNS". Mr. Semmer writes of the simularity of the Grade 5 & Grade 6 & states "These high grade model 1885 or 1887 are extremely rare & hard to find to be able to compare engraving". He compares this gun to one he owns No. 18568 & states he believes both are Grade 6. Furthermore, he talks about the fine Damascus bbls. & states the number "2" marking "may represent the grade of Damascus barrels". CONDITION: bbl. finish has faded to gray showing area of light surface corrosion & good damascus pattern. Frame & lock plates retain 30% lightly visible case colors w/ balance fading to silvery gray. Wood shows age darkening & light checkering wear w/ scattered scratches & handling marks. Action is sound w/ crisp locks. Bores show scattered very light pitting. (01-19082/DS). ANTIQUE. $2,500-3,500.
