REMINGTON RAND 1911A1 RIA REWORK SEMI-AUTOMATIC
PISTOL. Cal. 45 ACP. S# 956555. Bbl. 5". Remington Rand 1911A1 was the most common .45 Caliber semi-automatic pistol issued during WWII. Many were later reworked, including this example that was reworked under Frank Krack at the Rock Island Arsenal. As per all Remington Rands the left side of the slide is marked with the 2-line address, reflecting the manufacturer and its location in Syracuse, NY. The right side of the frame is marked "UNITED STATES PROPERTY M1911 A1 U.S. ARMY" above the S# "956555". As part of its original inspection, "P" proof was applied to the top of the slide and the left side of the frame. Original inspection was by "FJA", at which point the ordnance wheel applied to the right frame. Disassembly shows a corrected Flannery Type 19 bbl. that was marked "P" on the left side of the lug and a "F" on the right side of the lug. This pistol was later reworked and refinished at the Rock Island Arsenal at which point the initials "FK" were applied to the right frame along with "RIA". Fitted with brown plastic grips having the circular reinforcements for the screws and a replacement mag. with electro-penciled "6613" at the base of the spine. MAGS: 1 7-rd. CONDITION: virtually new as refinished by the Rock Island Arsenal, now with only a very few superficial handling marks. Mirror bore, with well defined rifling throughout. Correct manual mechanics. A wonderful Remington Rand 1911A1 with a documented history of military reworking. PROVENANCE: The Collection of Edward Scott Meadows. (24-706/LMA). CURIO. $1,500-2,500.
