1890's US Army Preston Experimental Mess Kit set that is all contained in a shoulder pouch with a sling. Canteen is in center and Mess kit fits over either side of the canteen and all slides into a felt lined pouch with sling. An angled pouch inside contains the knife, fork and spoon. Handles fold around side of the mess kit and the canteen cup slides over the bottom of the canteen inside the pouch. **Canvas bag has some soiling and wear but stitching is tight and strap is intact. Leather edging has cracking and chipping but all the string hooks to tie it up are present and intact. Canister and utensils have some patina and cork is broken but present along with hook and chain. Overall a nice rare piece in very good condition for the age.** $750-$1,000
