Made by Springfield Armory, Springfield, Massachusetts, in 1909, with the barrel being fitted by H.M. Pope in 1924. This rifle is known as the "1924 International Match Target Rifle". This rifle is one of approximately fifty known rifles, with Pope rarity factor unknown. Rifle has 32" tapered 30 caliber barrel with Globe front sight and Belding and Mull bolt peep sight. Barrel is stamped "H.M. Pope" and has "607" Pope number under the stock and is fitted with Posa mounts and an Unertl 8x target scope with caps. Standard 1903 action with three position safety, single trigger and blued 1903 steel floorplate. Bolt is polished with "L" marking on underside. Custom walnut checkered pistol grip stock with Perch-belly forearm and carved Fleur-De-Lis design with ebony forearm cap and steel decorated shotgun butt plate. Consignor lore reports that this rifle was made for Colonel Townsend Whelan and stocked by Griffin and Howe. More research is needed to verify these issues. J.T. Livengood Collection. CALIBER: 30-06. CONDITION
90% original blue with light handling marks. 90% original oil finish with sharp checkering. Good bore with clear optics. Bolt has a broken firing pin and does not function.
