Rare first type conversion of a percussion straight breech military rifle to 50-70 Government by Springfield Armory made in 1870 with 700 of this type made. 35-1/2" round "In the White" 3 groove rifled barrel in 50-70 centerfire with pinned blade front sight and rear graduated flip sight and serial numbered "38108" at breech matching action. Action is case-hardened with plain trigger with Lawrence 1859 and Sharps 1852 patents. Walnut two piece stock with "ELA" cartouche. Stock has iron hardware including "U.S." marked butt plate, two iron bands, iron nosecaps, correct steel ramrod, and sling swivels. J.T. Livengood Collection. CALIBER: 50-70 Gov't. S/N: C38108. CONDITION
90% original military finish on barrel with area of pitting on muzzle due to poor storage. Action retains traces of original color. Wood has coat of linseed oil with highly visible cartouches and handling marks. Good bore and mechanics.
