The chapeau is made of black beaver fur or felt and features a low, circular crown with a wide brim that is turned up on three sides, similar to the US Model 1832 General Officer& #39;s Chapeau. The chapeau is adorned with a black silk cockade, a gold bullion tassel, and a black ostrich feather plume that is attached to the left side of the hat. Commodore Edwin Moore was a naval officer and commander of the Texas Navy, which was established in 1835 to help defend Texas against Mexico during the Texas Revolution.
