Rex Schnitger (1877-1947) Spurs
1" wide heel bands, Wyoming made with his signature 8 point domed buttons, with 8 point iron rowels, very good condition and have nice patina, with brown leather basket weave spur straps. Circa 1930's. Later cowboy modified swinging buttons have been replaced. Rex Schnitger was born in Cheyenne, Wyoming and learned bit and spur making from Henry “Dutch” Thar. Rex opened a store where he sold western items as well as bits and spurs. He sold his own bits and spurs in his store as well as selling some through the Hamley catalog. Rex would move to California to do work in the Bohlin shop in the 20’s as well. Schnitger did not mark his work, though a partnership known as the Range Land Company did mark pieces, though they are considered rare. His pieces can be identified typically by a stripe pattern on the heel band or cheek and a distinctive Wyoming style including frequent use of silver buttons as decorative elements.
