Cal. 8x57 (8mm Mauser). S# 8044a. Bbl. 23 1/2" with the TGI import marking. Blade front sight. Tangent rear sight graduated to 2000m. Scarce BSW-made K98k rifle that was captured and reworked by the Soviets. BSW made the fewest of any standard K98k maker prior to WWII. Original matching numbers on receiver, bbl., and front sight. Matching Soviet arsenal numbers on stock, bolt, and floorplate. Receiver top has "BSW 1937" markings. Right side of receiver and rear sight base both have three eagle "4" Waffenamts. Both locking screws are missing. Dull Soviet arsenal-rework blue finish. Laminated stock set with faint German markings and left side sling provisions. No cleaning rod is present. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: cof 43 coded S84/98 bayonet with matching numbered scabbard. Metal of bayonet and scabbard show scattered fading to gray and oxidation. Handles show a few notable gouges. CONDITION: stock set appears mostly cleaned of Soviet rework finish with scattered dings and handling marks. Metal retains 95% of its dull arsenal-rework blue with some light scratches and edge wear. Action functions properly when hand-cycled. Bore is mostly bright with some frosting but strong rifling. PROVENANCE: from the estate collection of Charles Wagner. (24-4620/MJC). CURIO. $500-800.
