Cal. 31. S# 1317. Bbl. 3.25”. 9" Overall, brass frame, shrouded spur trigger, 3.25” octagonal barrel stamped on top flat: “WALCH FIRE-ARMS CO. NEW-YORK / PAT’D FEB 8, 1859”. This scarce Civil War era pistol utilized a most unusual mechanism, long 5 chamber 2” cylinder that held 2 powder & ball charges loaded atop each other, making 10 shots. Cocking dual hammers simultaneously, single trigger pull dropped right hammer firing outer most charge in 1st chamber, 2nd pull of trigger fired inside charge & ball. This unique arm was manufactured by Oliver Winchester at New Haven Arms Company under Walch contract. Company “I” 9th Michigan Infantry bought these guns & found them satisfactory. CONDITION: good to very good overall, appears original & complete, smooth metal, traces of finish, grips retain majority of their original factory varnish, moderate edge wear.
