SERIAL 653. BARREL 6". CALIBER .38. The factory letter shows this gun having been shipped in a 100 gun shipment to Major Cyrus Radford of the United States Government on October 3, 1908. Cyrus Radford graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis, Class of 1890. He retired as a U.S. Marine Corps Brigadier General. "The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Navy Cross to Brigadier General Cyrus Sugg Radford (MCSN: 0-800), United States Marine Corps, for distinguished service in the line of his profession as Officer-in-Charge of the Depot of Supplies, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where General Radford displayed qualities of energy, administrative ability and devotion to duty, whereby the supply service of the Marine Corps was maintained in a high state of efficiency and every demand made upon it promptly met." "The Colt Model 1905 Marine Corps was a .38 revolver issued by the United States Marine Corps during the period from 1905 to 1909. It is a variation of the Colt M1892 with a rounded grip frame. A small number (less than 850) are known to have been issued under military contract. These revolvers are marked on the butt with the appropriate USMC markings and are serial numbered 001 through at least 812" WIKI .
