Cal. 36. S# 1630. Scarce 2nd model, 1st type made 1860-1861, state of Virginia ordered 500 & the 2 identified survivors are of this configuration. Less than 2000 of this pattern made. Spiller & Burr used it for pattern for their first model revolvers made with brass frames. Standard configuration, 7.5" octagonal barrel stamped on top "E. WHITNEY / IN HAVEN". Loading assembly is mismatched and later Whitney type with Colt style latch is not original and lever not fitted to cylinder pin. This should be easy project for gunsmith to repair, rest of revolver is very good and functional. These early 1st types are rare. CONDITION: very good overall. Barrel retains about 20% thinning original blue finish. Frame is smooth gray appearance. Portions of cylinder scene visible. Sound grips with about half of their original factory varnish. Matching S#s observed throughout on original parts including cylinder. The loading assembly is not original though lever has been numbered to match. Mechanically fine. Crisp rifled bore w/ scattered pitting. (01-26044/JS). ANTIQUE. $800-1,200.
