ACTION SNIPER RIFLE. Cal. 8mm Mauser. S# 54730. Bbl. 23 5/8". Receiver does not have visible S#. Numbers match on bbl., bolt, bolt shroud, cocking piece & front scope ring. Rifle made by Mauser & fitted w/ high turret sniper scope. The sniper scope is a DIALYTAN 4X marked "bek". Scope S# is 76876. This scope is more usually found in long side rail mts. Scope has correct vertical post & horizontal crossbar reticle. The scope retains its original rolled edge rubber eye cup. Front scope ring has been renumbered to match rifle. The original S# has been partially removed. The front scope turret is marked on bottom w/ partially encircled "R". Front scope base has visible solder on both sides. Rear scope base has eagle "135" on left side. Original black leather scope caps marked on end w/ eagle "WAA 414". Visible receiver markings include German eagle proof & eagle "135" on left side of ring. "Mod. 98" on left receiver rail. Bolt is equipped w/ correct milled safety which is unmarked. Tangent rear sight graduated to 2,000m. Inverted V front sight w/ protective hood. All stamped furniture. Trigger guard marked at forward end "byf" & 2 indistinct eagle inspector's mark. Floorplate marked "byf". Welded upper & lower bands retained by single spring. Bayonet bar & cleaning rod are present. Laminated stock set. Handguard & stock are serial numbered 13198. Buttstock marked on right side w/ faint eagle "WAA 135". Steel disassembly disk. German leather sling. Correct checkered cup type buttplate. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: gray plastic muzzle cap. CONDITION: replacement stock set has arsenal rework type finish w/ added finish. Stock has light wear, scuffing & handling marks. Stock has transverse dowel reinforcement at bolt knob relief cut, to repair internal crack. Metal retains 80% original blue finish w/ light wear, thinning & handling marks. Upper & lower bands have overall brown patina & may be replacements. Extractor has notable plum coloration. Leather sling is well worn but appears serviceable. Scope retains 50% original blue w/ thinning, wear, turning gray w/ scattered spots of fine pitting. Scope rings have notable machining marks & gray & patina finish. Optics appear slightly cloudy but serviceable. Elevation adjustment moves freely. Good shiny bore w/ lightly worn lands. PROVENANCE: From the estate collection of Charles P. Obremski. (22-1316/RW).
