BOLT-ACTION MILITARY RIFLE DATED 1909 W/ CORRECT BAYONET. Cal. 30-06. S# 383339. Bbl 24". Bbl marked behind front sight “SA”, “flaming bomb” & “10-09”. Ladder rear sight w/ volley notch graduated to 2850 yards. Small, grooved, dished windage & elevation knobs. Blade front sight w/ protective sheet metal hood. Rifle mfg. in 1909 & retains a high degree of its original finish w/ correct features & is equipped w/ correct early 1909 dated bayonet. Straight down bolt handle. Bolt handle is marked on underside w/ punch proof & illegible letter. Safety lug is marked underneath w/ “1” & “8”. Safety markings have block letters. Cutoff markings have serifs. Cutoff polished bright on the underside. Narrow smooth trigger. All milled furniture. Matching walnut stock set. Buttstock is straight at receiver wood line. Marked over trigger guard w/ crisp boxed “J.F.C.”. Cutoff recess marked w/ “E” & “F”. Marked under grip w/ encircled script “P” proof. Forearm marked at tip w/ small “S”. Smooth trap buttplate. Nickel plated oiler in the butt. Hand guard made w/o clips & is not grooved at sight protector swell. Lettered w/ “S” in front of rear sight. Correct early Model 1907 sling. Markings appear as “B.T.”, “B.C.O.” & “10”. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: Model 1905 15 7/8" fullered blade bayonet w/ bright lightly sharpened blade marked on left ricasso w/ “SA”, “flaming bomb” & “1909”. Right ricasso marked w/ “US” & “385423”. Balance of metal is blue w/ corrugated walnut grips. Leather scabbard w/ metal throat & early type belt attachment. Scabbard is marked “R.I.A.”, “1909” & “T.C.”. Bayonet is in very good condition retaining most of its original blue finish on crossguard & pommel. Grips have light wear & scattered handling marks. Scabbard has wear & handling marks w/ added coat of glossy finish. CONDITON: stock set has light wear & scattered handling marks w/ crisp markings. Metal retains 80% original blue finish w/ thinning & light wear. Very good shiny bore w/ flat lands. PROVENANCE: From the Lifelong Collection of Glen E. Mattox. (23-96/RW). CURIO. $900-1,500.
