SCARCE LEE SINGLE SHOT SPORTING RIFLE
SERIAL 1348. BARREL 27". CALIBER 44RF. Lee’s Fire Arms Company Single Shot Sporting Rifle made circa 1865-66 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Made from 1865-66 as a sporting arm to continue doing business once the war had ended and the demand for their carbine that was privately purchased towards the end of the war fell out of favor. This rifle could not command enough sales to keep them in business after 1866. Features an octagon barrel that swings out to load. Exposed hammer, sporting sights, blue finish and walnut butt stock. Condition. Maker legend stamped on breech of barrel mostly readable. Metal has turned homogenous patina. Stock is very good but there is a putty wrist repair. Bore is strong but there is black powder abrasion. Very rare gun with low production. ANTIQUE
