SCARCE MAS 1949-56 MSE COMPETITION SEMI AUTO RIFLE
. Cal. 7.62 NATO. S# 237. Bbl. 20 3/4" w/ grenade launcher. Post front sight w/ protective ears. Aperture rear sight graduated to 1200m. Rifle is also equipped w/ APX L806 scope w/ post reticle & good optics. The MAS-49/56 MSE was adopted by the French in 1968 using both newly made & reconditioned rifles. The rifles were made for competition, as the French took all prizes in NATO rifle competitions using their bolt action FR F1 sniper rifles. The US complained that the FR FR1 was a sporting rifle & not a service rifle & thus the MSE rifle was born. 3000 MSE rifles were ordered but only 900 were made. The rifles were split between the French Army, Air Force, Gendarmerie & some were made for export. Right side of receiver has added black Velcro patch. Right side of receiver has MAS 1949-56 & "CAL. 7.62 N" markings. There is likely an import marking on left side scope rail. Arsenal parkerized finish. Beech stock set w/ pistol grip, black cheek piece & left side sling hardware w/ leather sling. Butt stock also has slip on rubber buttpad. MAGS: 3-10 rd. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: spare sling, French manual, target demonstrating accuracy, spare buttstock spacer & grenade night sight. CONDITION: stock shows some handling wear. Metal retains 92% arsenal parkerized finish w/ scattered silvering. Very good bore. PROVENANCE: From the Working Reference Collection of Military Arms Instructor, Master Sergeant Vincent Pestilli.
