SCARCE ORIGINAL COLT WALKER POWDER FLASK.
7.5" x 3.5" Identical to F#20 in Robin Rapley's 1994 text "Colt Percussion Accouterments 1834-1873". Identical to flask #828 in Ray Riling's 1954 monumental text "The Powder Flask Book". All pertinent points to identify this very scarce flask made by only one manufacturer for Colt in 1847, John Matthewman are found in Rapley's book. Those three points that are easy to discern are the position on the handles on mortar carriage, position of the drum under the wheel of cannon, and the crossed pistols above "Colts Patent" are Walker Colts with their distinctive flared grips & round tipped rammer with no catch. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: copies of pertinent pages from Robin Rapley's 1994 text "Colt Percussion Accouterments 1834-1873". CONDITION: very good overall, retaining strong areas of "bronzing" which is only found on Colt Walker flasks, no other Colt flasks have this type of finish. There is a single partial initial stamped under the distinctive Walker oval "Colts Patent" mark on swiveling cap for balls on top of cast top. The plunger measure is fully functional. Seams on both sides have opened, one small dent on bottom. (02-20969/JS). $4,000-6,000.
