MODEL 1922 NEW MILITARY & POLICE SEMI-AUTOMATIC PISTOL. Cal. 9mm Browning Long. S# 147230. Bbl. 4 7/8". One of only 1,000 Model 1922 New Military & Police semi-automatic pistols mfg. by Webley & Scott under contract for the South African Union Defense Force (UDF) starting in 1925. The left side of the slide is marked with the winged Webley & Scott bullet logo above "W&S", followed by "WEBLEY & SCOTT LTD/ LONDON & BIRMINGHAM/ 9 m/m AUTOMATIC PISTOL", with the UDF's insignia marked on the right. Right grip is inscribed and appears to read "BUD. J. N. PHILLIP.". Frame, slide, and bbl. exhibit a high polish blue finish, with some smaller components, including the trigger, trigger guard, and hammer, being polished in the-white. Frame is mounted with 2-piece checkered vulcanite grips. Large half-moon blade front sight, with windage adj. V-notch rear sight. CONDITION: metal components retain large amounts of their original factory blue finish, exhibiting scattered light to mild wear, handling marks, and surface oxidation overall. In-the-white components exhibit some light surface oxidation as well as some spots of age-related discoloration. Very bright bore, exhibiting some scattered spots of light pitting while retaining well-defined rifling throughout. Grips show scattered marks and losses to the diamonds, with the left panel exhibiting a repair that stems from the mag. release button. (24-4041/MLW). CURIO. $1,000-1,500.
